Our son, Sev, started out like any other baby. He was walking early and progressing to each milestone until 18 months when everything stopped. He became obsessed with wheels, spinning, and began displaying many of the common traits associated with autism. He lost the few words he had been saying and only babbled. We knew something was wrong, but we were put on a waiting list for 6 months to receive an evaluation that would lead to his diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder. Now, he is 2 and is the sweetest, happiest boy who has a love of art and music. Although he cannot talk, he expresses himself in many ways such as through artwork.

273018365_10158837415775945_2018067039360600108_nSev picks the colors he wants to use for each painting. I help him squirt the paint into a bag with a canvas. Then the fun begins. He squishes the paint around with his hands (and sometimes feet) laughing all the while. When he is done, he likes to see how the paintings turn out and a lot of them are quite elaborate.

My hope is to use Sev’s paintings to spread awareness to people that children with language barriers have many other ways of communicating and expressing themselves that can really be beautiful. The money raised selling his paintings goes toward Sev’s care and 10% of the proceeds will go to The Art of Autism.
